I was curious of what Dean Reisner’s role in the movie was, since I thought the original creators of Starman were Bruce Evans and Raynold Gideon, and then Mike Grey and John Mason credited as the developers for the TV series. Turns out Reisner did 7 rewrites, working with 6 directors, but was uncredited by the Writers Guild. That means Marian’s movie script by Reisner is a rare gem indeed. Do you happen to know which of the 7 rewrites you have, Marian? And what, if any, differences from the production version are in the script? Or is yours the final production version?
The background to Reisner’s role that I was able to find is at this link: https://www.chicagotribune.com/news/ct-xpm-1985-01-18-8501040368-story.html
Incidentally, it was refreshing to finally see something appear in Starmanet. I’m aware there is a discussion group on Facebook, where it seems just about all of the Starman TV commentary and most of the SSI fandom have migrated. For those of us not on Facebook, I hope some dedicated soul remembers that this is supposed to be the “Official SSI Discussion List” (or so it says in the “To” block above), and resends at least significant discussion items onto Starmanet.
And for anyone new to this list, be aware that our official Starman Fan Fiction Archive still exists at https://archiveofourown.org/users/HowNovel/works?fandom_id=27155, under the “How Novel” Banner, which features 128 high quality works written by Spotlight Starman International (SSI) members. A number of other Starman stories also are published on the larger archive.
Regards to all,
Chuck S.

This is really interesting information about, Reisner. Thanks for the detailed research, Chuck.
Yes, it was nice to see some activity on Starmanet after all this time. It’s been very, very quiet for a long time.
And yes, please do look at the fanfic archive if you are a newer fan or a fan of earlier vintage who has not been involved in a while. Many fandom authors are represented, we appreciate new readers and also Chuck’s considerable volunteer efforts in organizing, uploading and maintaining the archive in its current location for the past several years.

It’s fairly quiet on the Facebook group as well. A little more activity than here lately. But no one person is responsible for either group. I set up the Facebook group over 10 years ago, but it is not official. People post news or pictures they find interesting or related to Starman somehow.
There are about a hundred or so people on this list. Discussions are dynamic. If you start one people will participate. All are welcome to post thoughts, memories etc here.
There is a discussion on facebook regarding a virtual convention. But really it’s just going to amount to a few zoom meetings in October. Perhaps a couple of other events I’d like to have a panel discussion about the fandom at 30+ years and we could really discuss anything. But like anything it requires participation. It will also require special software on your computer or smartphone/tablet to participate. Unfortunately people in Europe/Australia will be in odd time zones for watching.
Once everything is ironed out I’ll post something here as well as the Facebook group.
If anyone has any questions or would like to help. Post here.
Thank you to all the people who keep Spotlight Starman alive & well - whichever way we get the info! I am on both this list & FB; but I never really thought of here as a place to regularly chat. I just thought it was kind of an announcement platform for the events, etc. I was so busy, I never really thought to post on FB; but I really miss having talks with others about my favorite show. I keep trying to get my friends to watch it; but they are always so busy too. :( Anyways, either format I would love to start some convos going. :D On Monday, August 24, 2020, 08:40:09 AM CDT, Michele Azuddin via STARMANET starmanet@starmanet.com wrote:

yes, that is also the way I found out yesterday about Vicki.I have been sticking to the old fashioned (ha!) way of e mail. Now I am also on the spotlight starman facebook.I like to know what's going on even though I am in Canada and have not been to the last few gatherings Cheers Caroline Medd On Monday, August 24, 2020, 11:10:20 a.m. EDT, Lisa Meeks via STARMANET starmanet@starmanet.com wrote:

Thank you, Michele. Please do post about any event being planned. I’m sure this is the first anyone solely on this list has heard about it. If participation is the goal, every member of SSI should be aware of what’s going on. If that requires duplicate postings, so be it. There are reasons for not getting involved in Facebook, just as there are reasons for joining, but those decisions should not result in the exclusion of members of this fandom solely because they choose to follow one vehicle or the other.
I think a virtual gathering might have merit if there are elements similar to a normal family con – i.e., cast or staff appearances. Secure that and there will be some participation!
Feel free to post my comments and the link about Reisner over on Facebook, using just my Chuck S. pseud.

By the way, based on the date of Marian’s (and now Lisa’s!) Reisner manuscript of Oct 31, 1983, and the fact that it says “Shooting Script” on the cover, I’d conclude that this document is indeed the final production script. I’d could be wrong, they all could say “Shooting Script,” but since the movie was released in 1984, it’s likely that’s the one.

Regards to all,
Chuck S.
